I'm here to tell you it doesn't have to be this way.

I spent many years as an international attorney in the corporate and finance worlds, where I learned to lead with perfectionism and command-and-control. To be honest, it took a toll on me and the people I love.

From the outside, everything looked perfect. I was successful at work and I had the perfect little family. No one knew I was burned out and had become a living pressure cooker - exploding at my husband and kids (more often than I care to remember).

At work I never felt appreciated by my female colleagues, probably because I didn't help them rise up into leadership. All I saw was competition. It got to a point when I couldn't even stand myself.

I felt so alone, even when I was surrounded by people.

I was exhausted. And angry. At first, I tried to get the rage inside under control with an intense workout regime. When that didn’t work I tried to suppress it with yoga, meditation retreats, self-help books, coaches, and the like.

Nothing really helped get my anger under control.

Sound familiar? 

What I’ve learned is this. I was never meant to “tame” the fire inside — but I did need to learn to harness it and use it in a whole new way. That’s been life-changing, and what I know is that I’m meant to work with other high-powered women who struggle with perfectionism, anger, isolation and, yes, loneliness.

I know… not the standard topics we discuss at cocktail parties, but it’s real, it’s honest, and it’s really needed.

Not just for us as individuals. But for the world. 

Women have the power to make significant changes in this world at a time when we sorely need change. The way I see it, the immature, dysfunctional masculine that is leading our world today can only be balanced by a mature feminine energy. It’s on us—you and me. 

The problem is . . . the old way of doing power (think: power over, dominating, manipulating) is not working anymore. 

Many women know that and don’t even want power because of the negative connotations surrounding the word. There's something shameful about wanting power as a woman–because it wasn’t defined for women - and our innate feminine values weren’t included.

I know, and the women I work with know, that when we don’t own our power, we get resentful. Angry. And when you can’t touch on and connect with your anger, you keep a lid on your potential. Your power.

It’s a vicious cycle that is so hard to get out of, and nearly impossible to do on our own.

Reimagining what true power could and should look like for women takes inner strength, self-love, and support.

Which is why, over the past year I’ve created a new body of work that I’d like to share with you.
